The Energy and Environment Specialty Group (EESG) of the American Association of Geographers has selected Monica Salas Landa‘s recent article in Environment & Planning A, “Crude Residues: The Workings of Failing Oil Infrastructure in Poza Rica, Veracruz, Mexico” as the winner of the 2017 Professional Geographer Award. In making its selection, the EESG completed a review of key papers in the broad field of energy geography. The EESG Awards Committee described Salas Landa’s work as expanding the boundaries of energy geographies, particularly in the areas of Latin America and critical infrastructure. Salas Landa, assistant professor of anthropology and sociology, will give the energy and environment plenary talk at the next annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers held in Boston in April.
